Just a quick reminder to folk in Vent to please try to keep it to a PG/PG-13 level.
Lots of us are parents with kids... (Bedtimes vary, and we are spread out across multiple time-zones too).

Thanks :)

Ok. after last night, this needed a bump :P

The "I can't help it, I just blurt stuff out" excuse doesn't cut it.
I'm not referring to an occasional startled expletive... (thats part of being human).
But the selection of words, for the sole purpose of offensive shock value, is a CHOICE.
And, it has no place here.

I REALLY don't want to start muting people in Vent, because that weakens our communications.
It's the same reason I don't have very many people on /ignore.
(the only people I have on /ignore are the folk that have brought the worst of the "Barrens Chat" with them)

We all agreed to the rules of conduct before playing the game.
(If you don't agree to the EULA, you can't log-in).
However, those rules only apply to public chat channels and are policed (occasionally) by CSRs...

As far as Mythic is concerned, private channels (such as /g, /as, and Vent) are considered "free-speech" areas, and are not governed by the EULA.
That means we, as a family, need to (and have) set our own guidelines of what is acceptable within our house.

Our camaraderie as a family is built on our social banter - Lets keep it clean(ish).

Thank you,

I totally agree with this there definatly needs to be rules and standards on vent when it comes to speech,, I know after years of vent being PG to PG 13 both with our alliance vent nd my guilds vents ,, jumping into other vents and hereing things like the f word be said ever other word or the gang banger type speech is extrenly offensive for me as well.

I know with my guilds vent we took a hard nosed approach to violaters,,, basicly a 3 strikes and your out ,,, and i mean totally out,,, if you violated the rules of our vent 3 times in a hour you were booted from vent and banned for life. now the only exception to that was we had 2 rooms set up where the rules didnt apply and as long as the potty mouths stayed there they were ok...

As a side note and this goes to stoat or any one else i may have offended last winter when cinder and I took things south with the KY jelly talk and the like im sorry we did not mean to offend -) if i ever get to loose with the speech please be sure to let me know

Agreed. From what I saw in chat last night we had a very vocal guest in vent with us during the raid. I suggest if and when vent gets out of hand please speak up or let a vent admin know. The vent admins will have title next their name.

Yeah thats the downside with opening up vent to everyone durring events you never know who your gonna get. That one guy was 2 seconds from getting booted. He's also of the guild who gave profyle so much crap a couple nights ago. It's an unfortunate side effect. None of our guys or gals were involved in that outburst. It was simply the guy from MOC.

Maybe our vent could have a pop up window on login which explains our expectations, and requirements, for participating with us.

I feel a lot better knowing that "the vocal one" last night wasn't a member of our family. And, no worries Ltol - Most of those late night conversations you referred to were in the "innuendo" category. In that case, "little ears" may be confused, but they wouldn't be burning... heh heh :)

Yeah! It was obvious that this dufus wandered in off the streets. The Gaiscioch family is amazingly good natured. If anyone is uncomfortable, they say so and everyone backs off without any ruffled feathers. Whether or not this guy read the rules of conduct, he was given the benefit of a new comer and given ample notice to cease and desist, but chose not to. It is just one of the hazards of having guests. Luckily most handle themselves better.

I am proud to be part of this alliance. It is amazing to have this many folk who all get along and support one another!

Glad you brought this up, Stoat. I don't say a heckuva lot in chat.... and I don't post all that often on the forums. My kids are never listening and I don't mind the late night chat that starts up once in awhile *cough*Cinder*cough* LOL after prime time hours.

Reckless use of the f bomb and foul language for its own sake like we experienced last night has no place, however, and I'm quietly behind you all the way on this one.

That reminds me I MUST overcome my "ocasional second language shyness" and get into Vent more. I used to communicate mostly in english some 3 or 4 years ago (when I had a North-American roomate at my old house), but since then I had little chance to keep my shakesperean verbal language skills honed.

So let's make a deal. I'll try my best to sound "understandable" in Vent, and you take my grammar (and pronunciation) mistakes ligthly, ok? :)
(I think I only need 1 or 2 weeks to get used to communicating and thinking in english again)

Blessed Be.

BTW: I give my word I'll try my best hold my tongue. Brazilians have a very "light" approach to swearing.

Eirean, the Masked Lady
Seabhrán, the Archer
Lillandera, the Furnace of the Unspeakable Pains
Delianath, the Young Blade

In Lord of the Rings Online, look for Seabhran (from Warboud Kinship) in Elendilmir.

Honestly, what grossed me out and pissed me off (after all I have a 6-year old listening) wasn't that the person was saying bad words. What he said was NASTY. He didn't really "cuss" so much as get graphic and nasty. It was uncalled for.

Like someone else said, innuendo is fine, she won't understand, and PG-13 does allow for some cussing, and I have been know to cuss sometimes too. What I don't do and don't want her to hear is the, shall we say, level of detail, that was shared.

I talked over him on vent in a hopes the she would miss what he was saying, and I really hope I wasn't loud on anyone's vent. But, I am a mom and will do whatever I can to maintain the childhood innocence as long as possible.
