Help for Using Addons on a Mac (Tuatha, Trinity, etc)
By: Viktre on 02/27/2010 at 05:54 PM
Here is where I learned how to install addons on a Mac:

I can vouch for the first answer instructions. The second I have not tried. Both the Tuatha and Trinity mods, as well as SoR, all work on my Mac(10.6.1) Please feel free to post any additional info or problems you may have had, especially version conflicts or advice. I myself cannot get a USB microphone to work consistently on Snow Leopard, and I have read where that may be a known issue. I am still investigating this. Anyway, good luck, and I hope this helps :)

The second reply, about creating a symbolic link, works just fine for those who don't mind using Terminal. You can do essentially the same thing by navigating to the "AddOns" folder in Finder, right clicking it, and choosing "Make Alias" from the popup menu. The alias it makes appears by default in the same location, but then you just drag it to your Desktop (or wherever) and you have a nifty shortcut so you don't have to navigate 6 or 7 levels deep every time you want to access the directory.
I get the cats confused ;-) , but I haven't upgraded to Snow Leopard. That makes me, what?, Panther I think? At any rate, 10.5 instead of 10.6. I'm just using the built-in mic generally--not ideal, but it's better than nothing. But I tried my brother's (Faireach's) USB mic and it seemed to work fine as far as I could tell. I'll see what I can dig up about problems and solutions for USB mics with Snow Leopard. Maybe nothing, but you never know without trying. :-)
Other than that, I haven't heard of anything working on the Windows version but not the Mac version. Since it's essentially running in Windows emulation, I can't do better than "Fastest Framerate" on the graphics, but performance seems just fine at that level.

Thanks for the info Tetharel! You are a Leopard, rreooow! ;D Heck, I would still be Aqua if it were not for the Intel chips. Because seriously, I really didn't even *need* a new system, didn't even want one. My old g4 was(is) still working beautifully. But whatcha gonna do? Oh well.
Again, thanks, and any help you can find for the mics would be so appreciated!
See you on the battlefield!

I haven't had much luck, checking various tech forums, finding anything about any sort of general conflict between Snow Leopard and USB mics. What mic you using, Viktre? That might help zero in on appropriate discussions.

I'm using a gigaware mic from radioshack...is that bad? :o

No experience with it myself. I've read some bad reviews of it (mostly saying the sound quality is crappy), but it's easy enough to find people happy to trash-talk almost anything. ;-) If that's the mic you were using in last night's raid, I'd say the quality is just fine.
Glad to hear you got it working, because I didn't have much luck finding anything, good or bad, about that mic on OS X. For the sake of posterity, what did you do to get it working?

Thanks though for helping me look Teth, and I’m hoping that it continues to work(more or less). I believe I have taken care of the intermittent issue, though I’m still scared the robot voice may blow everyone's eardrums out again at some point, so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. As to the fix, I went into sound preferences in osx and turned the input volume all the way to max, while keeping the Vent input volume midrange. Though I still think I may raise it a tad because I still have to hold the headset mic really close to my lips for it to register I spoke. Last night there were still few times it didn't pick me up. So I had to keep my vent program viewable at all times and keep my little speaker viewable as well when I talk to be sure it registered.
Additionally, I found this thread for anyone who may have any Vent/Mac issues in the future. It has a lot of interesting troubleshooting information.
