AION: What class will you chose?

I am wondering what class to choose for myself. Certainly I want to be of use to and balance our group, and so it is necessary to sketch out what we think we'll be playing.

For a quick glance to see what archtypes we have so far, Please start out your reply to this thread with one of the Following:

TANK - [Class]
HEALER - [Class]
DPS - [Class]

( This is not in the Aion Official Topic thread because I look at that thread as a 'general discussion' if you will, and this is a very specific inquiry. :) )

DPS - SORCERESS

...Maybe. See below.

As in all my previous MMOs, I have chosen DPS and am HEAVILY considering making a sorceress my main in Aion. However do to the nature of the PvP in this game, I wonder if I should try a tank class for the survivability. It would certainly be difficult to unlearn my tendency to want good DPS, and I generally hate chasing my targets around... And so if we have someone already thinking of making a Templar, that would greatly help guide my decision back to my DPSing ways. :)

You all know me, most likely a tank, however the assasin looked pretty cool.

HEALER - CLERIC

... Maybe. I really enjoyed chanter. But they are a buffer, not a healer. So I kinda gave up on it. I may also roll a templar because of awesome survival skills and pulls =)

Not a chance in hell of rolling any flavor of mages/scouts. But probably will play an Elyos Assassin on Open Beta PPPeD1.5G

HEALER - CLERIC

But if we have enough healer on first day, I'll roll as an Assassin.

There is never enough clerics. Trust me.

I think that the best 6men in this game is cleric, cleric, cleric, cleric, cleric, chanter. =P

Rolling a cleric and probably nothing else. I will create one of every class and play through ascension just to have the bank alts.
In beta I played gladiator, scout, sorceress all to about 15ish and settled on cleric.

I would hope everyone just plays with what makes them happy. I was honestly not impressed with cleric much until I hit 22 and started getting some more breadth to my skills. 22-25 really introduced a lot and I am confident I will be happy with this choice...then again I had 5 betas to play though so I got a lot of time on Siel to experiment :)

Lol Pulitzer. Sounds like an Aion B Team!

Yes yes, A clerics stays busy because there are always people to heal, no matter how many clerics there are. I don't think Two is too many, or even three. We have a pretty good number going to try Aion, and we'll definitely need the healer lovins!! (specially since there is only one class that fills that role)

With Twilah and Pultizer playing Clerics, and Don and Bangur thinking of making Tanks... I feel free and happy now to go with the main class I had my eye on. (Sorc) I'll be part of the 'dime a dozen' crowd of Aion. ><

In open beta I am going to play a chanter just to see how they stand. I definitely would not discount them as good healers and I think they will be essential to any party, but more as a utility class. Looking at thier skill sets I don't see a group heal, but I do see strong single-target heals and HOT's. Also, thier party buffs and debuffs I would like to explore more. If they also have good shields (and I see some on thier skill lists) I don't see why they wouldn't be able to heal a 6 person party.

Err... I don't think they can. A single cleric will have a hard time healing a 6men, due to being main target and being CCed, interrupted all the time. Also damage scales much better than healing in this game, as you probaly noticed already.

Chanter is a nice add to any group, tough. Serioulsy, 2 clerics + chanter are a solid foundation to any PVP 6men.

Ahh, I wasn't referring to PVP when I said "6 man"...was referring to PVE campaign quests. I betaed with a friend and her chanter did a good job keeping us up when I played a sorceress.
I'll hush now - didn't mean to compare apples to oranges :)

*cheers*

@Twilah - Hehe, yeah. A chanter can keep a group alive in all but the hardest instances. But that's not why I'm playing Aion. =P

@Bashir - They will release Beta info this week. I THINK, based on launch and early access that it will be around 09/04.

Hrm, Chanter would be a GREAT addition to our grouping in Aion. Reminds me of a Bard in EQ2 (that I played only for a month). As the game launch approaches, and if we don't have a dedicated Chanter in our force, I'll definately consider making one. :) I'd like to be that useful to the group. Do Chanter buffs Stack?

Chanter buffs - I remember Jas said she could have three going at once for the group. Not sure how/when you get them all but that's what she said :)
They're more of a melee class, and she wanted mana stones for + parry. I'll give her a shout and see if she had any advice (for when I try it) but we were all learning and experimenting so this is just opinion from beta...except for the three chants ;)

Chanters buffs never stack. Dots and hots doesnt stack either in this game.
They have some 30m self buffs and some 60m castable buffs (clerics have those also).
But they have mantras (like KOtBS auras) that they can run up to 3 at the same time.
You can have 3 mantras up if you are the only chanter in a group.
But guess what? Two chanters can have only 4 mantras up at the same time (instead of the logical 6).
So having one chanter is enough. And very handy, since speed is always nice @ PvP.
Better yet: I dont think the speed drop in combat.

=)

Yeah a melee healer and utility class. My curiosity is enough to try one in beta but I'm not sure I can wrap my head around playing such a hybrid class. I want to heal, so cleric is all I really see because you can build yourself to do one thing. Group heals and even group rez at the higher levels - a healers dream plus decent damage for solo questing.
I guess they're literally there to chant thier mantras and stay alive, holding a balance between damage and CC?
It's fun to learn new approaches though :) I'll try and read up on them more as it may be a good alt to have in my back pocket in case half the server decides to roll clerics ;)
Good to know about the mantra stacks Bashir, and I also didn't know the dots and hots don't stack. Booo!

@ Twilah: Provided we have our Tanks and Healers covered, I'll play some squishy DPS. DPS is usually not lacking in groups. :)

@ Blockhead: I really wish I could spring the cash to fund your Aion Account. You'd excel at playing a Templar or Gladiator for sure! xD
